    BOSS DS-1 Distortion Pedal

    • I had a solid state amp, with no distortion.
    • No pedal is going to make a crappy solid state amp and $300 guitar sound fantastic
    • It's the same sound as the original orange DS-1; that classic solid-state distortion that's a little noisy, heavier than the SD-1 or those Tube Screamer type pedals
    • That said, if you have a tube amp or play guitars with humbucking style pickups through decent solid state amps, you may like it
    • For $29.95ish this pedal saved my little solid state amp... which was probably worth about the same.
    • It will not make your 15 watt solid state Ibanez Soundblaster amp sound like a raging Orange Rockerverb and it will not make single coils sound like EMG 81/85s.
    • I tried it on both my amps (My practic amp: a solid state Fender Frontman 25R, and my big amp, the B-52 AT100, which is a 100w tube halfstack
    • Jazzmaster). To me, Fender style guitars and pickups have a tendency to sound a bit thin played through distortion pedals and solid state amps
    • I have a S type (Stratocaster copy) and a Fender frontman 25r solid state
    • Don't buy these to play on a clean channel or even worse on a Solid State amp.
    • I've used it on Marshall solid state amps and Vox tube amps.
    • Pickups like P-90's are a bit better for this, but for the best sound, a hum canceling pickup like the Gibson PAF (insert your own favorite here) works best when playing with distortion, so in my opinion, if you have a solid state amp you will want to put some thought into what guitar and pedal you want to use with it (assuming you have a selection of them, like I do), or, to put it another way, if you only have one guitar (and know how to use it!
    • No pedal is going to make a crappy solid state amp and $300 guitar sound fantastic
    • With the exception of 'modeler' type pedals from companies like Tech 21, I do not think that any dirtboxes- this included- perform optimally when run into a solid state amp.
    • Not to be used alone (bad bad bad solid state).
    • It doesn't really make a solid-state amp sound like a tube amp, it's just a very honest distortion
    • Not to be used alone (bad bad bad solid state).
    • Physically, the pedal is a tank, I don't think they can be killed as I let my 16 year old use
    • I use the orange micro dark as clean as I can get it, and set the volume and shape knobs accordingly
