Each protector has 3 holes punched and a 3-hole punched black paper insert, and the protector opens on 3 sides (top, bottom and inside edge of the plastic which holds your paper on the 3 rings of the binder).

Very heavy, sturdy pages & glad to see the holes are pre-punched

The top 10-20 were clear with holes on the edge, not requiring me to punch holes in the actual document, which was what I had thought I had purchased based on the advertisement on amazon

To use, you must punch holes in your 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper, place it into the opened sheet protector, and the protector lays down and folds over the inner hole-punched edge of the black paper to close around the underside of the inserted sheet.
