With the gain dimed on the pedal, and on my solid state practice amp, I can get some extra compression/sustain that sounds good to me

Combined with a dirty amp or another overdrive, you easily achieve screaming shred gain

But as a stand alone OD to a clean solid state amp, the Orange Burst would be a better choice based on the perceived extra gain due to compression.

As a boost to an already breaking up tube amp, both are good choices.

With all the knobs maxed out, and a little pre/post augmentation(overdrive pedal for pre-boost,and eq pedal to post-shape the tone,i was able to achieve a decent modern metal sound...and through a little Peavey solid state combo amp

Works as a great pre-amp
