Price point is great for an entry-level Overdrive/Clean boost

If you want to experiment with the sound of a transparent low-gain boost pedal without spending hundreds of dollars on "Boutique” I recommend this

Not an overpowering overdrive, gain-wise medium at its max, and sounds great boosted by other overdrive pedals (like a TS808).

A truly great clean boost for under $30

First, it has independent volume and gain controls, which means that it operates more or less as a transparent clean boost with the Gain at "0" and the Volume turned up.

But where it shines is as a clean boost - gain at zero, treble and bass at max, adjust volume as needed

this is a super transparent, very flexible, boost/ medium gain pedal

Plug this pedal alone into a relatively clean tube amp, and you get a pretty amazing range of tonal options - everything from pure clean boost, to bassy Bluesbreaker crunch, to "gainier" sounds you would associate with a more traditional OD or Distortion pedal

Currently, I run the Pure Sky as a clean boost with a Zvex Box of Rock going into it

If you somehow don't care about loss of high end, this pedal offers halfway decent distortion, and honestly a nice sounding boost

I haven't owned a Timmy or other transparent overdrive/boost pedal but imagine it would work similarly

With the gain turned down and the volume up you get a very nice clean boost

If you are already a fan of the BB Preamp, or you want to experiment with the sound of a transparent mid-gain boost pedal I recommend it

Clarksdale could act as a bit of a clean boost, I don't think this CP-25 would be very good at that in comparison.

Pros:A good clean boost when pushed (gain at 90% or higher) gets a little grainy but not unmanageable

It's a very good, quiet, transparent OD that has tons of clean boost and sounds good by itself or before / after other distortion boxes

I'm using it mostly as a clean boost but run it by itself if I want to play something mellow

If you're looking for a clean boost, basic EQ, and/or light transparent OD, then get this

So, while you are unlikely to step on a Pure Sky Overdrive to go from clean tone to full-out rock overdrive, there are many other things a good transparent can do for you - an "always on" clean boost, adding just a bit of grit to your tone, or stacking with another overdrive to boost or emphasize parts of its tone

i was expecting to use it as a semi-clean boost or a saturated drive stacked with another pedal but it turned out to be one of my new favorite pedals!
