The photos it did take have nice bokeh and the bees were clear but it's taking too long to get there for $1000

This lens not only produces very sharp images for true macro photography, but also produces that much desired, smooth, dreamy bokeh

At the same aperture (let say 3.2); the new 100mm 2.8L IS produced nicer bokeh and better contrast, color.- At low speed (below 1/60) - the new 100mm 2.8L IS obviously defeat the non-IS

A picture at 1/20s with IS enable is sharper than 1/100s of the old lense (without IS).In my opinion, this lense is also usable for many other purposes (other than macro) for example: portraiture - this will be in between the 85mm and 135mm lenses, with the IS feature and nice bokeh & sharpness, this lense is also very nice for portraits, especially for kid portraits (if you already had three 85mm 1.2L-II, 100mm 2.8L, and 135mm 2L lenses

The bokeh is marvelous - soft with no sharp angles or weird artifacts

I'm extremely happy with this lens, fast focus, great bokeh and color, extremely sharp, and of course the IS.

My images are tack sharp with beautiful bokeh.

This one is so much sharper and produces such beautiful backgrounds (that amazing bokeh others have written about) that it's worth the difference in cost

It gives an amazing bokeh, super saturation, and, like I keep saying, great sharpness (be sure to set your in-camera sharpness down a notch, because you are going to see small hairs on noses and other yummy bits.

f/2.8 provides reasonable light for most subjects with a tripod and appropriately long exposures as well as delightful bokeh (depth of field blurring).
