Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

    • I love the angle I can get with this lens inside and outdoors.
    • A great general purpose Wide angle zoom lens.
    • Reasonably quick lens and focus, with a nice wide angle to it.
    • At 17 you get a great wide angle, yes there is some distortion and slight blur on the edges, but ITS A WIDE ANGLE!!!
    • Ok so I hope my other lenses do not get jealous, but I really love the wide angle of this lens
    • I purchased this lens because I was looking for a good wide angle lens since all that I have for the wider range is my 18-55 kit lens
    • Very sharp, light, fairly compact with versatile wide angle zoom
    • Interiors, architectural exteriors, and some travel scenes are best recorded by a lens whose angle of acceptance approaches or exceeds 100 degrees
    • A great all purpose wide angle.
    • On an APS size sensor camera (mine is Rebel XT), it works approximately like a 28-70 mm zoom--a perfect walk-around lens, giving you decent wide angle and at the tele end, a pleasing perspective on faces you expect from a moderate telephoto
    • I plan to use it as my walk-around lens now and when I upgrade to a not-scaled down sensor, it will be a great ultra wide angle.
    • The wide-angle is beautiful, captures great area without distortion around the edges which is exactly what I was looking for.
    • I use it to shoot from an elevated angle as well as for interior photos.
    • A really superb wide angle zoom, that "feels right" in your hand, at a reasonable price.
    • For the price, I haven't used a better wide angle lens.
    • I do not consider this a good wide angle lens
    • I got this lens for my full-frame camera (5D), and it's a great lens to get into wide angle photography - sharp and versatile, plus it's very nicely priced for an L lens.
    • * good close up lens for indoor photos if you have good light* enough angle to photo someone from close up* light and feels balancedcons:* it's an f/4 at best, so without a flash, it's hard to get good shots in low light
    • still love the wide angles!
    • This makes the lens a very effective general purpose lens, ranging from a great wide angle to slight telephoto
    • and I thought with this len I will get good wide angle pictures, HOWEVER, you need to have a full frame camera to get this done, otherwise, the pictures look almost the same than using a normal len
    • Excellent product, great wide angle lens.
    • It isn't as sharp as a wide-angle prime lens, but it is the best one for the money.
    • Wide angle is perfect for indoor shooting except for my baby son
    • On the latter, it's merely wide rather than ultrawide, but if you've been walking around with something that bottoms out at 24 or 28mm, you'll probably be surprised at how much you missed that wide angle.
    • I use it on canon 30D, and the wide angle is perfect
    • I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good wide angle lens.
    • If you want THE best wide angle L lens to use on both cropped and ultra wide for full sized sensor Canon EOS camera bodies this is it.
    • I have used various Canon and other brands of wide angle lenses with varying success, but this is the best EF wide angle lens I have used to date.
    • One of the most expensive wide angle zoom lenses
    • The wide angle is perfect to get 3 walls in small room shots
    • For the money this is the best wide angle lens you can buy
    • I highly recommend this lens as a ultra wide angle for full frame cameras
    • At 17 you get a great wide angle, yes there is some distortion and slight blur on the edges, but ITS A WIDE ANGLE!!!
    • If you are considering this or the 16-35, I would suggest this lens unless you need a faster wide angle.
    • Basically, it's a good lens minus distortion in my eyes, but what wide angle wont have distortion
    • f/4 is more or less useless, so saying it's a relatively fast wide angle is a bit misleading.
    • If you feel the need for a perfectly satisfactory wide-angle zoom or primary lens, but don't want to break the bank to get the best one, this is a good lens to consider
    • The Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens fantastic for wide shots and landscapes!
    • I really like the ultra wide angle that I can play on the lens, whether to zoom in or out, real fantastic
    • Awesome wide angle - I love shooting on a full frame like the Canon 6D with this 17mm
    • This is one of the two most popular lenses for Canon users the other being the 24-105mm f4L, frequently users of that lens also buy this as it gives you a genuine ultra wide angle view on a full frame body
    • Great lens for the beginner as well as for the seasoned pro
    • While it is reasonably sharp at f4 across the focal range, it is not as sharp as when stopped down to f5.6.
    • It's as sharp as or slightly sharper than the 24-105 f4
    • This lens is nowhere near as sharp as the Canon 50
    • Not sure if this is normal on an APS-C camera or not, but I'm a little mystified as to how this is happening!
    • It's just does not have the 'hoopla' of lenses like the 70-200mm, but as good as that is for telephoto, this is superb for wide angle
    • But sharpens up a lot in the corners by going to F/4.5 and is as sharp as it's going to get by around F/8 where it seems about as sharp as any zoom I have and is approaching the sharpness of a prime lens at 17mm
    • The pictures were nowhere near as sharp as I had hoped for (Although I had no illusions that every picture would be tack sharp just because I got a new fancy lens.
    • Nowhere near as sharp as you'd expect from an L lens
    • I'm still reviewing, but my initial thoughts are the focus isn't quite as sharp as it could be?
    • I use it to shoot from an elevated angle as well as for interior photos.
    • (670g) ($575) (slow, not a walkaround)Tokina 17-35/4 (600g) ($400
    • Good quality glass and one of the least expensive L lenses you can buy.
    • In the world of lenses i think you really get what you pay for, even though this is a cheaper L series it still delivers the goods
    • It's one of the less expensive "L" lenses, making it a relative bargain.
    • It's one of the cheapest L
    • Like all L lenses you do get an included lens hoodA quick hit summary of the stronger and weaker points of the lensPros:+ Excellent build in line with the L badge top quality construction and sealing the lens is robust and built to last+ Pretty good sharpness esp in the central area, but really needs stopping down full at the 17mm mark (about f11) to tighten the corners up at f8 the extreme corners will have some softening (APS-C users won't see this at all as it's cropped out) very good at f4
    • It makes a good first L-lens, and a staple in the arsenal.
    • First off, if you're a pro with a bag full of $2000 lenses, you're probably not interested in this, the 2nd least expensive "L" lens
    • And if you have money to burn, definitely look at the more expensive L lenses.
    • The 17-40 L on the other hand is just amazing
    • f/2.8 L - extremely fast, extremely sharp
    • This like, what, the second cheapest L lens available
    • The price makes it one of the cheaper L lenses on the market today, but it doesn't sacrifice build quality, or image quality
    • The construction s typical L - great
    • For an L-series lens, I'm surprised that this lens isn't sharper, but it's also one of the least expensive L-series lenses
    • Overall, you are paying ~40% less than any other L lense and let's face it, that L is worth a lot
    • Great L lens for the Canon's line of ultra wide angle zoom lens
    • I already knew what was going on long before buying this lens, this is still a great L lens what will be with me when I do get around to purchasing a full frame camera.
    • Looks like all my lenses will be L from now on.
    • Final summary: This is not a fantastic lens but still a legendary "L" and is worth the price
    • This like, what, the second cheapest L lens available
    • But for instance the regular EF 28-135 non-L is sharper at 28-40 than this lens is.
    • Not bad for the cheapest L lens.
    • I normally prefer the 17-40 F/4 L over the 24-70 on the 5D Mark II unless I am shooting
    • And since its Canon's cheapest "L" lens, you really can't go wrong on the price either
    • Well, I only own one other L, the 100-400mm f/4-5.6, which I love - but I was still rather disappointed in this one
    • The build quality is worse than L-series but still pretty good
    • It then becomes a standard zoom with the 1.6 crop factor and is a great first L lens because of its price
    • Not really, I expected some issues regarding glass simply because it's a very inexpensive 'L' series.
    • As one would expect from L-series glass, clear with good contrast and color
    • Of course, it is not the best l lens it obviously has aberrations, fringing, slightly soft corners and
    • I'm just glad Canon made a somewhat affordable L lens for us amateurs who want to save up for a nice piece of equipment.
