* Solid build

Just got back from hiking trip in the mountains and maybe I got a good build, but this lens shows the fine rock texture on rocks hundreds of yards away

Build is really good.

The built is perfect, size not too large, and picture quality is sharp

The main reason I like the L-lenses, apart from the solid build, is the fact that the lens system does not protrude out of the lens body during zoom, unlike the EF-S and EF (non L) lenses

Both the build and focus mechanism are significantly worse, but should be good enough for many

I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, if you're looking for a great overall lens for your DSLR, this one is the one to get, considering it's price, it's a steal, a great well built piece of glass that will last.

It makes a good first L-lens, and a staple in the arsenal.

First off, if you're a pro with a bag full of $2000 lenses, you're probably not interested in this, the 2nd least expensive "L" lens

And if you have money to burn, definitely look at the more expensive L lenses.

The 17-40 L on the other hand is just amazing

f/2.8 L - extremely fast, extremely sharp

The price makes it one of the cheaper L lenses on the market today, but it doesn't sacrifice build quality, or image quality

I already knew what was going on long before buying this lens, this is still a great L lens what will be with me when I do get around to purchasing a full frame camera.

I normally prefer the 17-40 F/4 L over the 24-70 on the 5D Mark II unless I am shooting

Well, I only own one other L, the 100-400mm f/4-5.6, which I love - but I was still rather disappointed in this one
