Canon EF 24-70mm f/4.0L IS USM Standard Zoom Lens

    • But it is nice to know that the 24-70mm is there as well for those wedding pictures, sporting events, or indoor pictures of the kids that always seem to turn out blurry on anything above 2.8 if anyone moves
    • and it's now also my choice to have on my camera for personal time (along with my beloved 50mm).
    • The EF 40mm f/2.8 pancake is especially good, lightweight, and inexpensive
    • (expect almost same blurriness as 24-70mm I)Lots of aberration on corners compared to 16-35mm 2.8 II (Sorry, I don't own 24-70
    • I love my 24-70mm f/2.8 II and wanted an f/4.0 Hybrid IS version of it, but this lens just doesn't deliver
    • L Lens looks like it ate my EF-S 17-85mm.
    • The 24-70mm bests the 24-105mm in one
    • Don't forget to pick up a 77mm UV filter as well
    • I got it attached almost all the time, it gives you a really usefull wide angle at 24, and a very nice 70mm zoom easy tu use handheld
    • This lens is almost always attached to my camera because the 24-70mm makes it a good all around lens
    • This lens has been a favorite of many since it replaced its well-regarded predecessor, the 28-70mm.
    • 24-105mm is also a good option, but I prefer 24.70mm because of 2.8 A factor
    • The 24-70mm L copy I had was comparably softer than my sharp-as-knife 70-200mm L in all aperture ranges.
    • I rarely use my Canon 50mm 1.4 anymore unless I'm in a low light setting with now flash available.
    • Picture quality is very good; however, it 's not as sharp and contrasty as my EF 50mm F1.4 at the same F-stop
    • as someone who owns the incredible 50mm 1.4 lens, possibly one of the quickest, sharpest and greatest affordable prime lenses you can get for your canon, i cant help but compare all other lenses to this as a golden standard.the focusing compared to the 50mm 1.4 is incredible
    • I keep it for the video use but I wouldn't recommend it if you have a good working 24-70mm I.
    • I had become spoiled with the image quality of my Canon 50mm, f/1.4 lens, thinking that only primes would deliver such performance.
    • I went to a camera store to try before buying, and tried the 85mm as well as the 50mm.
    • f/3.5-5.6 Rebel XTi Kit lens Muddy, slow, pile of junkCanon EF 17-40mm f/4 L Fantastic colors, sharp zoomed 17 to 24mm, ultra smooth zoom action, light weightCanon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L Fantastic colors and contrast, sharp zoomed 40 to 70mm, zoom a little stiff at first, heavy, repair prone
    • f/3.5-5.6 Rebel XTi Kit lens Muddy, slow, pile of junkCanon EF 17-40mm f/4 L Fantastic colors, sharp zoomed 17 to 24mm, ultra smooth zoom action, light weightCanon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L Fantastic colors and contrast, sharp zoomed 40 to 70mm, zoom a little stiff at first, heavy, repair prone
    • It is almost as sharp as my 50mm 1.4 lens
    • It's been over six years since I wrote this review, and I continue to use and enjoy my 24-70mm, which is now paired with a Canon 7D.
    • I got a 18-55mm, a 70-200mm, a 50mm and obviously the great 24-70mm f/2.8 L series and it is a great lens for a walkaround purpose
    • It sits perfectly between the excellent 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM and the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lenses
    • It is just a bit soft wide open at the long end of its range, but from 24-50mm or so it's quite sharp even at f/2.8, improving to stunningly sharp by f/5.6
    • I or 24-105mm but still not sharp at all
    • The 24-70mm produces images that are almost as good as the prime but adds in the ability to zoom with out having to use my feet :-).
    • Serious, my 18-55mm crummy kit lens gives better images at F/4.5 than this pro grade lens does.
    • However, when it does acheive that perfect focus, the shot will rival the 135mm F/2 in terms of sharpness
    • I shoot a 5D Mark II and own several L lenses, all f2.8, and this 24-70mm is best in class image quality-wise
    • The cheaper EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is sharper at this focal length
    • However, do not expect it to beat a prime - even the cheap 50mm f1.8 (that I also own
    • the 24-105mm f/4 IS which struggled
    • So, if you have any plans of ever owning one of the very popular 70-200mm mid range zooms from Canon, I think the 24-70 is the better choice
    • My initial impression was that this lens was way better than my old lame outdated 24-105mm, but then I sat down, and shot test charts and was shocked to find out that it was worse, way worse at the focal lengths I use
    • It compliments my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8"L" IS USM very well
    • 70mm is also appropriate enough to get in there, but you may have to get up and closer to your subjects than longer lenses
    • Ultimately, I decided to get the 24-70mm as well
