The Canon r40 scanner works like a champ.
-
Horrible experience - after multiple hours through multiple customer service reps (over several weeks, given they take >1 week to reach back out), I found Canon no longer supports MacBook
-
With Canon, you get the Canon software AND TWAIN support, which means you can use anything!
-
Not only is the Canon ImageFORMULA R40 easy to use, it has a very small desk footprint.
-
However, Canon is mistaken: this scanner does not work with Big Sur, no matter what fixes one tries
-
At lower resolutions, I would say the Canon is almost twice as fast.
-
The Canon is MUCH cheaper.
-
Canon swears it works with Big Sur and has not even released an updated driver or software package for it
-
I finally found the section in the scanner software that allowed me to rotate a page that scanned in the wrong orientation (having it worked into a right mouse click with some other options would be useful Canon).
-
Canon has been totally non-responsive
-
At the end of the day, feels a bit clunky and mechanical b/c of the software.
-
It does take a bit of tweaking to get a setup that allows you to name the files the way you want as well as where you want them to scan to
-
Its annoying, but not as annoying as when it goes into sleep mode and starts FLASHING BLUE
