The base on this one is very steady and while I used the batteries it seemed perfect then I realized I use it too often and needed the plug.

With the gooseneck stretched straight up, it is about 20 ½" in height, and the sturdy base is about 7" X 6," tapering off slightly toward the rounded back.

I usually use it running off batteries - it is great for letting you see what you are doing inside a piece of electronics, as well as for reading part numbers off a component
