The reason for it to be placed in the bottom center is most speed trap lasers are lower to the ground for best accuracy meaning the laser is pointed at the hood/front bumper of your car

In day light, even on a cloudy day, not just with the sun shining directly on the unit’s face, all four of the icons glow as if they are all equally lit up, and when the detector detects radar, the particular band it detects is no brighter than the other icons
