while the machine IS well protected internally -- there's an over-temp shutoff, the top and upper surfaces are two layers all metal, etc. -- extra safety precautions are still appropriate.

EVERYTHING that fails on these machines is pretty easy to fix and all the parts are out there if you are cheap like me and want to keep a good machine in service as long as possible rather than just throwing it away every three years.
