Apparently this is "coil whine" and not uncommon

Does what I need, but has developed a coil whine when under load.

The coil whine is soooo real

The power supply didn't stop working or anything, just had very high pitched loud coil whine

The reason that I am giving it three stars is because of the extremely loud coil whine when my system is under any type of load

After reading that the coil whine is a common problem with Corsair CX line of modular and non-modular power supplies, I'd suggest that you do yourself a favor and try a different power supply.

That is if you are deaf or don't mind the sharp noise of coil whine when you are doing demanding tasks such as gaming or anything more strenuous than web surfing

Next day had insane coil whine at idle it was not normal, returned this for a EVGA

Seems these newer Corsair PSU's are coming out with even better QC as the ones I purchased a few years ago were more susceptible to things like coil whine (currently still having to deal with listening to an AX1200i which I was unable to RMA due to time that sounds like a damn banshee).

It was not compatible with my new GFX card, I went through RMA after RMA of the GFX card only to finally find out that it was this PSU that was causing the issue: a very loud buzzing/screeching/chirping electronic sound known as "coil whine"
