The best thing about this pedal is the FLEXIBILITY of distortion tones, add a little gain on your amp after the pedal to get wicked death metal sounds or play on your clean channel and get some thick syrupy doom/sludge tones

If you have a decent amp you can play this pedal on top of the amp's distortion channel and still get a fairly clear sound, but you don't really need to

When I compare the sound from this to my Digitech pedal, there is no comparison as the extra dimensions that I just mentioned greatly improve the sound over simply adding distortion to your guitar signal.
