it does it quickly, but the fast charging does wear out the battery faster since it heats up the batteries more

Constant charging is okay, so no worries about "over charging".

One of the batteries got damaged after the first use and they lost charge very quickly.

Personally, I prefer a quicker charge since my household does use a lot of rechargeable batteries and they all seem to run out of juice at the same time.
