Try separating and cleaning the photos - worst case, scan individually.- make sure the image faces down

I can now scan thick stacks of photos without issue, scans appear dust free, photos are scratch free, and the scan quality and auto enhancements (like color correction, brightness, etc) are excellent.

Tried small batches, large batches, cleaning photos, rollers, scan glass, rebooting, vertical, horizontal, front, back, and more.

Some usage tips:- if Device jams, perhaps the photos are sticking to each other.

The good:Software auto-enhancement is pretty neat - the photos I was able to scan were brighter and color corrected.
