whilst it's not quite as high end as the next model up (higher DMAX, consider this for difficult scans) it can punch up with dedicated 35mm scanners in terms of resolution and dynamic range

High quality, great film scanning

Scanned some 35mm on it at full resolution and the scans seemed dull, flat, almost down-right fuzzy.

Great scanner, don't expect speed on the high resolution scans, but you will get a good scan and be able to get a larger print of a picture you have.

The preview & scan software works well, but the Thumbnail view crops off about 1/16" in each direction

If you sit at your workstation waiting for the scanning process to complete, you simply can't work on anything else, or the scanning stops dead until you bring the scanning app to the front of the desktop and jerk the mouse around a few times

Here are my CONs, none of which would cause me to return the scanner:1) scanner cannot handle 3 4x6s at once; it can't pick out the boundary between the closely-spaced prints2) "auto" modes struggle to define boundaries and has a very low initial resolution3) buttons on front are worthless unless you can reassign them4) absolutely cannot get good scans on negatives or prints from simulated B&W C-41 film.5) automatic border definition crops out irregular edges such as torn paper and prints from carved out negative holders

Furthermore, a single scan of 8-10 documents or photographs is sufficient for modifying numerous photographs.

The scans are very sharp and there are lots of options for adjusting the scan.

This model has several important features over the models below it, ICE is worth the extra price alone... if you are looking for good printable results from the scanner the increased features make this ideal for film users who need to scan various sizes of film you also benefit from better print scanning too.

Good quality scans, great for my B&W films

Once you figure it out, it is really easy to use and provides great scan quality.

I've started scanning some of my negatives from 1998, and so far it has done a fairly good job, producing quality results - The scans look crisp and the colors are realistic.

I have an older model Epson scanner (Perfection 1650 Photo) which produces outstanding scans, and bought the V550 because we needed a 2nd scanner.

I am getting better scans from my printer than from a device that is supposed to do good quality.

Great product, really nice quality scans at great speeds and takes medium format film -

2 1/4 adapters are hard to align and I never could get more than one scan at a time w/o repositioning the negatives.

Works great for 35 mm negatives and normal scanning.

Good quality scans for the price.

I haven't started the negatives scanning yet so hope to find a technique of loading and unloading that will make it faster.

Then I tried SilverFast, and was amazed that I finally got a great looking scan with accurate colors.

This means flipping and rotating images in the scanner software, THEN finding the upward bow puts the negative outside the optimal range for sharp scanning

The scans are not clear or sharp.

This is the best deal for your money, I am able to get usable scans from 35mm negatives.

Let me start by saying that this Epson Perfection makes beautiful scans

you'll see many cannot tweak their way out of getting garbage/super grainy scans

It slows down scanning so much that it's not practical if you're scanning thousands, hundreds or even dozens of slides.

Enhances color on faded pictures, does good job scanning slides.
