Epson Perfection V550 Color Photo, Image, Film, Negative & Document Scanner with 6400 dpi (Certified Refurbished)

    • Works great, and the software is easy to use.
    • The software is more complex than it needs to be
    • The larger scanner comes with allegedly better software, greater capacity and more sophisticated holders but in the end, it is pretty much the same level of scan and the better holders are not really that much better
    • Scanner is good, but the software that comes with it is not that great.
    • Works great, good software.
    • The preview & scan software works well, but the Thumbnail view crops off about 1/16" in each direction
    • Overall, I'm pretty dissatisfied with the product mostly because of the crappy software
    • In six months worth of use I have only had one occasion that the software "got confused" and I had to toss out the preferences file to reset everything.
    • But after a software upgrade to my laptop, the associated software would no longer work to do the scanning with any ease
    • How can you produce such a great piece of hardware and NOT good software to operate it
    • Well, at this point, EPSON, your software is a lame, mostly worthless, POJ
    • This is not production ready software.
    • Also, the software would not work for Mavericks.
    • WITH THIS CRAPPY SOFTWARE
    • The software makes it easy to use
    • Software was easy to install and fairly easy to execute.
    • The software isn't the greatest due to it crashing at times.
    • Very useful software; even "automatic" color and black and white photo corrections are quite effective, as is the sharpening of black on white text
    • When I scan 35mm slides I can dial up the Dot Per Inch (DPI) so high that when I zoom in tight on the finished scan I can see the film grain! The software from Epson is pretty good too.
    • This is a very useful flatbed scanner with good software functionality
    • Software needed updates from the web to work with Windows
    • good software, fast scans
    • The software makes it easy to use
    • The software was great, but you need to play around with it to get the results that you want
    • and I just assumed that Epson would have included decent OCR software with it, as was included with the first two.
    • The wonderful software by Ed Hamrick, VueScan, works great with it on El Capitan
    • For me the main issue for any scanner is the software.
    • In both cases you can use the software dust removal which is fairly effective (3 levels low to high)USM
    • The scanning software it comes with is pretty awesome and versatile
    • For bigger professional jobs, either find a larger scanner or just remove the top, lay it on its back to one side, then scan your piece in sections, and reassemble the scans in your favorite photo software
    • The software isn't the greatest due to it crashing at times.
    • Since my laptop doesn't have s CD/DVD drive, I downloaded the software straight from the Epson site, but it still doesn't work
    • The software has improved, but that really isn't related to the printer.
    • The software is horrible on Mac.
    • The software works great
    • Epson called me, logged in, cleaned up the software
    • It feels like this is an abandoned software in the end and after many, many updates, I now get a notice that I am due an update but that OS X now performs such updates but there are no updates to be found.
    • The software is junk.
    • The software makes it easy to use
    • Well, at this point, EPSON, your software is a lame, mostly worthless, POJ
    • The only downside is the software
    • It's easy to scan any size negative using the software to adjust size, and the quality of both film and scanned images is great
    • The enclosed software works great for scanning without bloat for repetitive not needed programs
    • the software for this scanner is archaic and awful
    • The software has some really nice features, but also some annoying limitations, at least on Mac OS
    • The software is nice and easy to use, very customizable and I love the fact that I can scan 4 pix at one time and each comes up as its own file
    • This is my first experience with a photo scanner and the software was easy to use without needing to know about the technical details
    • Epson also provides good quality software.

    • Homer Simpson could write better scanner software than you
    • Software could use some improvements.
    • Positives:-Nice quality scans-PriceNegatives:-Slow-Software isn't great
    • Doesn't work optimally with a Mac running Silverfast Software and with OSX El Capitan won't work at all, would advise you go for a Canon 9000f mkII where the drivers work extremely well
    • Works great, software is easy to use, we can customize what types of photos wither its slide show photos or negatives that need to be scanned.
    • Works great, software is easy to use, we can customize what types of photos wither its slide show photos or negatives that need to be scanned.
    • But software can be better.
    • How can I say this, but the glass is nothing more than a plan piece of cheap-o windowpane glass, not like the solid glass that Epson scanners used years previous, and the glass is not "smooth"
    • I needed to replace an epson Perfection v500 as it finally died after years of good use
    • Digital ICE for prints as well as for film (V550 only has the latter).
    • Don't buy, run away from this POS as fast as you can
