It has a little bit of fan noise, but unless you need to project a quite movie that requires a quiet room, I don't see it loud enough to be a problem.

Larger than those mini-sized, yes, but I can project in well-lit rooms and still have plenty of brightness where those cheap mini projectors would be nearly invisible onscreen
