Don't expect this detector to save you from laser though - like all radar detectors, it simply can't warn ahead of time for speed traps using laser.

I would agree, as i use this one in my truck and mounted it in the overhead console (for that true discreet hidden look)...but regardless of my mounting location, the rear laser is pretty much useless due to the slope of the overhead liner and rear window

The Beltronics was louder but also got more Laser false alarms when driving into sunlight off the windshield.

Eventually I just disabled laser detection in the settings, but for something as expensive as this, I'd expect it to last longer...not to mention the shoddy repair work from the warranty (the front facing button now sticks out and looks like it's about to fall off).

But after buying two 8500 x50s and having both of them continually go into reset, recalibrate mode, give false LASER readings and having to send them back at additional expense for repairs, then having it happen again repeatedly, I am disappointed.

Calif HP has aimed LASER directly at me a number of times and I get zero response from this device
