Decent unit, but a bit flimsy and cheap feeling compared to the 10 year old one it replaced.

The timeline I got the units are like this x50 (original in mid-2000), 9500ix , then the x50 (current version) .After using the current version, I notice that its fault alert has been lower, less random alert if there are automatic doors around the area.

Overall this unit isn't bad, but it is definitely getting up there in age

It's a good unit except the clip that holds the unit and the case is not so solid

I thought the unit was defective because I drove approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile before I even saw a police car.

However this last unit fell apart with minimal use

This unit probably falls to mid pack or maybe even slightly under and there are other units out there for the same or less money with better range, reactivity, and filtering.

This unit is excellent for highway travel as most highway patrol use KA radar and keep it running so they are easy to spot with the x50... i turn off x band as it is pretty much not used by law enforcement cruisers

the unit is lighter than the previous model as well, which although might be a plus, still makes it feel a little cheaper / less sturdy.other than that, it performs perfectly just like all 8500 x50s, and is and has always been the radar detector of choice.

But the main reason was because I felt like this unit has given me more consistent results

As far as mounting location, on day 1-2 (including the day I passed the suspect LIDAR unit) mounted at Rear View Mirror level against glass, using included suction cup.
