After breaking the bars to the desired length you put the black plastic end caps back on and you can reassemble the structure

These "adjustable" hanging file folders were impossible to adjust - the plastic tool included to shorten the adjustable length bars were totally useless to bend the steel length bars at the scored places on the bars
