HATED the Freetime app and how locked down it is

It bombards your children with screens of "child friendly" apps, books and videos encouraging them to click away, downloading "free" stuff (its not really free if you have to pay a subscription) full of ads

There is not a YouTube app available and the ABCmouse apps that are for offline use are not compatible (except for one of them).

You are much better off buying an old nexus or samsung tablet and installing any of the hundreds of free apps from google play which all have intelligent parental controls.
