If I were in an unfamiliar city I would follow the Garmin route, if I missed a turn I would follow the directions on the map more closely.

It eased me through very large, as I call them 'interstate cities', because the driving is fast by locals and many,many exits etc

In testing, we found that the unit set at the fastest route sometimes takes you into a lot of slow city traffic when other faster routes are available.

My daughter always takes her Nuvi with her in her pocket so she can use it when walking around strange cities
