It will send you off an interstate even if interstate is fastest and shortest route.

It is very frustrating to not be able to plot routes without starting it after leaving my area first

Seems to be a dandy unit but like all navigation units that I have used (except for one) it does not take the best route all the time but it will get you where you need to go

The only time I have got lost since I began using this system is when I thought new where I was going and ignored the directions ended up lost as the route I normally took was under construction requiring rerouting back to where the GPS had told me to go in the first place.

BEST ROUTES are not always the best routes based on other GPS on my other Phone.

The 2797 does show optional routes and allow the user to choose the preferred route.

In other words, I wanted a gps that "tells me" the most efficient routing when I am looking a "for example" 25 houses in a city or town.

In testing, we found that the unit set at the fastest route sometimes takes you into a lot of slow city traffic when other faster routes are available.

Still can't figure out how to set up a custom route using the scenic route, need to go on more road trips.

With this unit I can program all the stops into a trip planning section and it will calculate the most efficient route to go from the 1st one to the last one

When it was working, it would take me the longest routes possible, I had it set properly to fastest route, on the way home from the 700+ mile road

Garmin's data base is far superior to other brands and nearly always gives the best route and recalculates quickly if you change.

There is no way to change route mid route like other gps devices.

Gone are the times of recalculating the route; if you make an error in seconds and silently it suggests another route and correct your course
