bought this because I would get hand cramps trying to shampoo my hair and really get the grime out

this thing reduces the possibility of hand cramping during the washing process (if you have natural hair, you know some hand cramping is gonna happen regardless during wash day) and, in my opinion, really breaks down the gook that's accumulated over time
