    HP 12CP Financial Calculator

    • RPN is great
    • They work for sure, and the RPN is easy to get used to if you haven't used it before - plus you can easily change it to the typical Algebra mode if needed
    • I still hate the RPN and way of entering data
    • I LOVE RPN and this calculator is a good one when it comes to doing calculations.
    • RPN is more logical and fewer keystrokes than an algebraic calculator
    • So, if speed is your passion, you know RPN and you already love the 12C, then I strongly suggest the new (post 2011?
    • If you like RPN it is the calculator, or are willing to learn RPN.
    • Over the years though once I got used to it, I actually prefer the RPN and so when I got this HP 12C Platinum Edition to replace my old 12C I still stuck to using the RPN despite this ability now to revert to the old way that I was initially used to when using my Casio calculator.
    • Also, for when you are dealing with customers, experts or witnesses who do not know how to use the imminently more elegant and efficient RPN, the HP12CP can toggle into Algebraic mode--picture a normal calculator with an = sign
    • While I was initially frustrated by the calculator's use of Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) - which can be switched to an Algebraic mode on the Platinum model - I have come to appreciate the much more efficient RPN
    • RPN is easy to learn, but who ever would have thought that the Polacks would figure out how to do something better and faster
    • The Platinum 25th Anniversary edition maintains that standard while improving aesthetics and throwing a bone to non-RPN users who for whatever illogical reason prefer algebriac notation.
    • So RPN (which was developed for speed) has lost its purpose
