There is a problem with color casts on the photos that is, apparently, a known issue that HP doesn't deal with

In the "help" section, it does say to plug in the phone to ensure that it stays on long enough to finish the update, so it seems to be a known issue.

I went on to HP forms and Facebook groups to see if anyone else is having the problem -- apparently this has been a known issue with HP Sprockets for a while and there's literally nothing customer service can do for you

I actually really love the HP 2 n 1 for what it offers, and the joy in seeing my children print off their photos right away
