I've been using it with a free software I downloaded called Virtual Midi Piano Keyboard, it's very simple but it works fine

If you have an iPad 1, the free software is not available, from what I could gather

Registration on the IK site is worth it because you also get a small truckload of useful software

The velocity response works as you'd expect it from a nice key rig
