Ultimately, though, I realize have to step up to a more pro product (a bulkier product, no doubt) that will allow the pad to be powered while still driving my soft synths via MIDI.

I love having all my midi files on my iphone and triggering my keyboard via the irig midi right away.
I have an M-Audio 88es midi keyboard that works great with iRig midi and the SampleTank app
they love this.... using "Synthesia", they can download midi files and it teaches them how to play a tune..... and scores them on it... worth every dime!

I love this product as it works extremely well with Garage Band on my Ipad
I hope they revise the product to correct the issue with plugging and possibly add some quality control testing prior to leaving the factory to remove the defective units prior to shipment.
