Long story short: Jaybird appears to no longer stand behind their product like they used to (and judging by the reviews of the newest model, the Jaybird Freedom, they no longer engineer a very good product anyway), and they are will to baldly claim that they will give you a Lifetime Warranty, but will not stand behind a product that is less than a year old.
