your not ganna get modern ultra high gain out of this pedal it does have plenty of distortion on tap but its better for 70's classic rock and country

On a clean channel'd amp - by itself - this pedal has enough smooth gain and sustain to be the only dist

Its gain is a sloppy loose open break up which to me doesnt sound good at any level

As you up the Voice - the gain goes crazy w/out feedback or high amounts of noise - a testament to the quality in my book.

On it's own - just a distortion pedal with a "mic'd up cabinet", super gain, super sustain feel to it - it's great.

This is an excellent all-around pedal, one that has enough gain and bottom end on tap to actually compete with the rectifier.

Finally, there are Level and Gain knobs that work as if they were the corresponding knobs on your amp.

I've found some nice guitar tones with this, but for me it has not been as useful as, for example, Joyo's American Sound, which is more versatile and effective
