I've tried others, like Olivs, which are also lovely, but the dominant plus gold label e is a reliable set with a great sound and feel, not too expensive, versatile, and ubiquitous

I definitely recommend this set for all levels of violinists.

, the the E string broke just 2 days after it was installed.

I was very disappointed in the gold E string and finally, after trying it on several of my violins, decided it was too harsh and am not using it.

(on purpose?) that the e string may be the pirastro "gold" brand, but it's not the actual gold-colored, more expensive e string that the pros use.
