When you place it against the music score, the sound is somewhat muffled by the page occluding the rear speaker; you can of course place it on a table or any surface by using the rear folding clip, but personally I like the metronome directly in front of me aside the score.

The metronome is a little soft for me, but I'm still using it to check my beats as I go

I tried over half a dozen phone & iPad apps, and found some that were better than others & one that was really good, but using an iPad as a metronome was rather clunky & awkward

I appreciate the metronomes out there and even metronomes with tuners ... but this one also provides a tone generator along with an earphone-in jack and a 1/4" plug in and out jack.
