I recommend if you're using these with an iPod to re-route the headphones through a headphone pocket amp (Gary Ali makes them at electric-avenue dot com); this greatly deepens the "soundstage" but increased fidelity for the phones alone but much more with the amp also means you will hear, on cheaper boomboxes and CD players as AC-running devices, the static and the running of the current below the richly enhanced music

Someone next to you will definitely hear the music (and hear it with great clarity!), but it's not so bad that it'll wake a sleeping person
