You do create a character, at the beginning, but you only use that character, at certain times, when you are playing through the story line portion, and then, if you are playing in free play, or playing challenges, etc., you can use that created character, at any time, by selecting it, from your character list

This game is a lot of fun, and will give you hours of entertainment, with the story line, free play and side missions
