This is a reasonably good speaker system to upgrade the speakers that normally come with a new computer system

The bass is indeed booming, and has a nice deep sound instead of a high pitch sound like other cheap systems

This system is great for identifying precisely what direction a sound came from, and it helps a lot in games where you need to know where a noise came from like Left 4 Dead

I had a great 2.1 Harman/Kardon stereo desktop system with a large powered subwolfer for a long time.

While a fancy subwoofer for an expensive entertainment system can be double if not way more pricey than just this system total, it's hard to find cheap 5.1 systems that have this good of sound quality

System is just right for town house

So I decided to get a nice 5.1 speaker system

My system sounds as good today as it did 2 years ago; I've never experienced a humm or buzz (as one reviewer puts it)& I'm guessing my neighbors would probably call the police on me if I raised the volume enough to cause distortion

so I will not be able to get true 5.1 decoding, but I don't want to spend the money for a true 5.1 system compatible with TV and DVD viewing.

If you want an cheap, but functional system to beat the crap out of and have another system for home theatre and audio, this may be a decent pick.

This system is fine if you are close to it, like the computer or video games, but for entertainment center use, it's just not as great as I was hoping

Where I live, we party, and I hear some pretty good sound systems where I'm at, but these little babies get just as loud and still retain better quality than most of the huge ass speakers I run into

So in conclusion, GREAT SYSTEM- seriously, I can't stress that enough- sounds beautiful, has some real kick (bass is impressive despite the small sub) and is easy enough to configure and use that anyone that can operate a light switch should have no trouble, but if for whatever reason you can't live without an optical input, or lack the coordination necessary to avoid tripping over the single inconveniently placed remote cable on the floor, then these might be real issues

I have the sound blaster Audigy sound card with support for 5.1 and together with the speakers, it is an awesome system for less than $100

However, if you want good sound for TV, movies or tunes at a very reasonable price this is a great system.

all and all... it is a great system and perfect for the average user, but if your a bass addict like me, either buy the equip to protect it, or get a separate woofer, because if your maxing it out all the time, it isnt going to last

The X-540 system was plugged into my computer and, when the sub didn't work and the remaining speakers didn't sound very good and had little volume, I tried to reconfigure the speakers on the computer as suggested by some reviewers, but nothing changed either the subwoofer problem or the quality of sound and volume from the speakers.
