I am not sure if KEF is about to address this in some firmware update, as it seems they introduced this silly ON button on the speaker and on the remote control to remind you that you are still on the planet Earth and you must to suffer a bit while enjoying the heaven class audio quality

With the Hugo i was wondering about DCA to analog to DCA again and how that would sound; well the signal going to the KEFs if I use line is 3v, and otherwise, the signal can be increased more than i would ever wish.
Maybe redundant but the sound coming out of these when fed the right quality signal is so incredible that I can not wait to get home from work every day to listen to them at least for a little bit._______________________10/22/17 UpdateMy journey that started on Aug 4 continues

PI intend to contact KEF regarding the paint to see if that's just how these "new" active speakers are or if most of them have a nice smooth piano gloss finish
Again, compared to the perfect piano black gloss on my passive speakers these new actives have an orange peel texture which makes reflections look grainy

A good start on a very good idea, but really just a DAC and amp patched onto the back a very well received pair of speakers.

I'm looking for good enough and the new pair almost passed
If all you care about is what they sound like and you don't care about cosmetic issues then order a pair and don't bother reading further
Researching best sound is fun for some out there, but for those who want to make sure they are getting the best pairing I would recommend these, with warning to abandon hope for wireless and plan to get Bluesound streamer or similar to get true wireless and maybe MQA capability
This is an outstanding product that's almost completely crippled by a terrible app
Have tried the wireless app and bluetooth, quite impressed as well
I would offer that Onkyo for example has had a very successful hi-res player app that I have been using for years without Onkyo systems that does what the KEF app should do
The app is good but not great and will surely improve with future updates
The App is really terrible, It DOES NOT SUPPORT SPOTIFY OR PANDORA so really you are left with streaming your mp3s or setting up another device that does the streaming that the app should be doing over the internet
If I didn't have the passive LS50's to compare I might think that their sound was decent, something you'd expect from a speaker in the $300-500 range but definitely not $2000+
I can get a pair that sounds great, looks great, and doesn't give me errors they would definitely be 5 stars like my passive LS50's
I can't even get a playlist to play consecutivelyMy plan for now is to use this as a wired set up because in even in wired I'm sure the speakers with matched amps and DAC outperforms the passive LS50 using other components.
I used to own the passive LS50 and ran them with a $7k and a $10k amp (to test them)
UPDATE 12/09/2017I received the new LS50W speakers yesterday and compared them to my passive LS50's and the active LS50W's which I returned today
