Although the adapter was tailor made both for PC and Wii U, clearly the reason it was made was so fans could play "Super Smash Bros Wii U" with the GameCube controller

Due to being able to switch between Wii U and PC mode, "Wii U" mode works with Dolphin Emulator native controller support and "PC" mode works with xinput for Rivals of Aether (and will be natively supported in the future.)Some tournaments may require OEM adapters to prevent any potential tampering issues, but besides that there are no reasons why the first party adapter might be a better choice than this.

This thing works great for Smash4 on Wii U but what I really bought it for was so I could play emulators with a GC controller and it works amazingly, I can play N64 games in Project64 with a wavebird controller

No lag, no bs, just a good deal.
