The top row of buttons are 1/3 the size and don't use the same action as the main keys

I love this keyboard, but it would have been perfect if the top row of keys (Escape, F1, etc.) were the same type of key as the rest of the keyboard

The entire top row of keys (above numbers) including 'escape' are just horrible

The top row keys don't click well like the others do

That was years ago and still today we find that we have a keyboard that has a slide switch to enable the function or not to function the top row keys.

The only thing I don't like about this keyboard is the fact that the top row has a switch to adjust between the function keys and shortcut keys

F-keys are not grouped as with most other keyboards - being a programmer I use the function keys quite a bit, so it's taken a bit of relearning the feel of where the keys are.- Top row of F-keys and others are not the same style of key.

The only other criticism I have is the function keys along time top row, they aren't normal keys and don't provide positive feedback when pressing them not to mention they are smaller

I finally quit replacing them but using the top row numbers on the keyboard was so slow, I chucked the keyboard and am back to using a wired keyboard with the right hand number pad.

There were many times that I would spend some time within the month cleaning the function key row more often than the rest of the keyboard.- Not self-serviceable

The top right switch for moving the top row keys from Function keys to laptop style option keys is a nice touch, and keeps the keyboard, with its necessary wrist rest, more compact in depth.- Though the space bar arrangement (and the N key for that matter) are different you still get used to them within a few minutes (however, I wish the standard sized location dimple on the F and J keys was a little bit taller JUST for this keyboard

The top row of function keys are not membrane-based

The top row functionality is toggled by a small slider on the top right of the keyboard.

I'm not really sure, because there is a "Clear" button where NumLock should be, and NumLock is pushed up to the top row with the other add-on keys

Unfortunately, the top-row function keys aren't keys at all: they're buttons.

Like others have said, the top row (esc + f keys) aren't great, but otherwise the keyboard is ok.

The top row keys (ESC, F1-F12,...), which double as the Media Controls and other Magic Buttons are awful

The keys are small chiclet-style that need maybe 3mm of travel to register, with the exception of the top row of buttons (F1-F12, PrtScn, ScrLk, etc.) which are microswitches (no travel; they just click when you press them)

It's much easier to type numbers in the top row correctly and in general my typing is faster and has fewer errors

So, what you'll find is the top row keys will alternate from your common music volume control keys to F1, F2, etc.
