Seriously, went hiking for a few miles (trail was VERY curvy, but probably 1 mile as the crow flies) around hills and through dense forests at a local state park, and my Mom communicated very clearly, from base camp, with me the entire time

Understand that they range is only 1-4 miles in the city or dense forest

In thick forest/rough terrain they travel less than 1 mile.

Other than the cheap-o earpiece and mic attachment - these little babies pack a punch, feel excellent in the hand, great sound, long battery life with rechargeable batt-pack, multi-function, FRS/GMRS with incredible range in urban setting.
