Do they have good distance and clear transmission

maybe 1.5 miles, maybe 2 enough distance for comms when you cant see each other, especially if you are making rounds on a property to verify everything is closed up for the evening or secured for a storm

We get a pretty good distance on these if we are not in a built up area with buildings in the way.

The farthest distance I got away from home with the radios, still hearing each other, but the sound breaking-up bad, was 1/2 mile
