They have a good sound, and they were able to hear each other, though it was getting a bit fuzzy, at a mile away.

When you tell the other person to speak louder, the sound gets really distorted

but it is tinny, weak and too quiet yet much louder on weather reception or open squelch but still tinny and less robust sounding in comparison to the Midland GXT 1000

The sound is good and you can control he volume with the off-on switch

I bough these radios after being disappointed by Midland's design decisions WRT battery life management - but those at least worked properly - loud and clear sound, adequate power, no issues with receiver overload (even being were 5W units), etc.
