You need to experiment with the device (it is adjustable) to get the proper distances and angles that work for you in order for it to work properly
If you are going to use trial and error to adjust the handle to the best angle and position (which I do recommend), be careful not to strip the screw in the plastic receiver, which seems a bit soft.
It took a little trial and error to find the right placement and angle.

I have absolutly no regrets about the purchase and am pretty confident that on a single trigger trombone it would serve me quite well, but I want to make sure I am able to hold the slide closed with no comprimise as well.
