NETGEAR N300 Wi-Fi Router with High Power 5dBi External Antennas (WNR2020v2)

    • Another friend who is a tech support person recommended this.
    • After all, who wants to play tech support guy when you're on vacation or get a phone call from the in-laws asking for remote assistance when they're on vacation
    • This was confirmed by Netgear Tech Support
    • Tech support costs (for 1 time) costs $49.990!!!
    • So I purchased the tech support
    • Talked to tech support at Netgear & no help solving my difficulty.
    • I called netgear tech support and after doing their "self check" they said it was working
    • After an hour, it appeared it was still not working and the tech support ordered me a new router
    • I was stunned when I called Tech support
    • Update: I paid for tech support, and the technician walked me through changing the settings that got my router working.
    • I asked him why would I spend more on tech support than the router was worth and just spend that money on a brand new and improved router, but he assured me it was normal for routers to need this reconfiguration
    • Worked with Netgear Tech Support to try different settings on both units.
    • Called NetGear tech support who was great and helped me for over an hour on the phone, calling Cox for me, and using a 3 way call was able to find out the problem was with Cox's splitter
    • Don't know how their tech support is because I didn't need them :
    • I had a fairly simple question on using it as a repeater and tech support sent me to youtube for video that wasnt even by them
    • I called Netgear and they told me I needed to pay them $90 for 6 months of their tech support service in order to help me trouble shoot
    • Since the router is more than 6 months old Netgear wants to charge me by the call or an annual fee in order to talk to their Tech Support.
    • I started getting emails indicating that my free tech support would soon end.
    • It took several calls to Netgear tech support to determine that the "replacement " router could not be installed with the same procedure as the original
    • This particular model is very difficult to configure , i tried tech support and the device is not responding to trouble shooting , may be a defective peice , even the make and model is cheap quality , i do not recommend this.
    • Tech Support did say that the point / click control is available in the more expensive Nighthawk (eg: Model 6700) router line
    • I was on the phone for a half an hour with another tech support person who did not understand what I was saying, and when she finally did, she said the only thing to do was send it in and get a new one (she also titled my email with "Don Galbany" which needless to say, is not my name)
    • To me lifetime warranty means lifetime warranty -- it doesn't mean lifetime warranty, unless a technician can find a workaround that's necessary because of a physical defect!Edit #2: After I got off the phone with tech support, I discovered that my Internet speed was severely slower that it was -- by at least 4 times!
    • After the tech support guy looked around (he must have logged into my router because I was warned when I log in), he asks me to pay $89.99 for extended support for 6 month
    • Tech support was very helpful
    • They insisted that because I could get a connection sometimes that the hardware was fine and if I wanted them to troubleshoot the problem I would have to pay for tech support
    • The worst part is Netgear's tech support is just about useless
    • Also, they don't tell you is that if the router breaks after 90 days, you have to pay for tech support -- BEFORE they will replace the router.
    • I have the Charter Tech Support on the line with me and we determined that I got the one out of 10,000 that have a manufacturer defect.
    • tech support always was one more setting change they say we need to try
    • netgear will not support it after 90 days unless you pay an exorbitant fee for a "tech support subscription" even though there is supposedly a lifetime hardware warrenty
    • The worst part is Netgear's tech support is just about useless
    • Called Netgear and spent 30 minutes with a tech support rep trying to get an RMA
