We had our internet provider make an in-home service call to test and improve all speeds and even they were unable to consistently get the router to sync, improve speed, provide the advertised range or update software in the recommended way.

In actual use I find that the X8 while supporting faster speeds does not have as good a range as the former top of the line X6.

I personally use it in this configuration because I have two modems/gateways that have a different amount of bonded channels increasing my ISP speeds available to the home network.

Initially things were great, fantastic speeds, my internet downloads throughout were a stout 330+Mbps on a 300Mbps connection.

With the only change being swapping out my old Netgear Router with this new Tri-Band Nighthawk, my wireless issues throughout the house are now resolved and my wired and wireless speeds are fantastic with my installed GigaBit Ethernet Service - consistently over 900 mbps wired and a minimum 250 - 300 mbps wireless.
