• Reviews around wire (1.62 of 5)

NETGEAR Orbi Ultra-Performance Whole Home Mesh WiFi System - fastest WiFi router and single satellite extender with speeds up to 3 Gbps over 5,000 sq. feet, AC3000 (RBK50)

    • Another great feature was the wired back haul capabilities (as my house is ethernet wired in about half of the rooms) but this feature didn't work at all.
    • and I couldn't do the firmware update without hard wiring into the router and the satellite
    • Obviously u couldn't hard wire everything, so this is a huge improvement
    • Our speeds are almost as fast over WiFi as the are on our hard wired devices
    • but they are hard wired off of the Orbi and it all works.
    • Switching to wired backhaul, which defeats the purpose of this unit, improved it but not enough for video streaming
    • My alternative approach to add a wired basestation through a much more difficult wired solution in an older home.
    • but they are hard wired off of the Orbi and it all works.
    • signal is very strong and very convenient to have a satellite to connect with some wired devices like Philips hue bridge
    • Kept dropping the signal, then actually screwed up my actual internet to the point I could only get it hard wired
    • Each satellite has at least 3 ports to hard wire any device with no loss of signal
    • The Orbi is a little bit better, especially with the built in 4 port switch so you can add hard wired equipment
    • Plus even with hard wire connection our 24 hour cameras lose connection 1-3 times a day for a few minutes
    • Bonus is you get additional hard wired outputs wherever the box is
    • However, my 40-year-old home’s wiring got overwhelmed by the complexity of the setup
    • I have a couple of old devices I can hard-wire into the Orbi satellite in my office
    • I was even able to connect my old extenders to the Orbi so that I can hard wire devices into the network
    • Additionally, I would have loved some kind of hard wire option like a direct install in a light receptacle/box
    • Second, it would have been nice to have some kind of ethernet port like the indoor units for wired backhaul and flexibility
    • Doesn't matter where you are in my house, you experience signal strength as though you were hard wired to the modem!
    • Problematic - I have not had the unit for a week yet and have had to make 4 or 5 calls into technical support.
    • As I can't update, have no support, and am vulnerable, this device is going into the E-Waste pile, after just 6 months of use
