This is a great lens for the amateur photographer who needs a good range of distances to take great pictures

I feel that the 18-105 is a fine lens in terms of IQ, and is a compact design for it's range, but my wife was instantly coveting my 18-200VR.

With it's amazing range you'll get every wide angle shot you need, and have the reach out and touch capability when you need it

Clearly, Nikon had to make some tough choices in balancing the features of this lens, trying to satisfy a wide range of users and applications.

It has generally good sharpness throughout the range, it has a GREAT range, has a pretty wide end, and, to boot, is relatively reasonable in price

I love this lens as it takes great close ups or long distance shots with out changing the lens.

Not as sharp as my primes (but sharpness is controlled mostly by me, not the lens)
