That means that at the same focal length, kit lens zoomed to 35mm, if you needed to ramp your ISO to 3200 for the proper brightness (exposure) on the kit lens (which produces a lower quality photo), this lens could take the same shot, all other setting the same, with the same exposure at about a 550 ISO which would produce a much better quality photo

I would prefer a 28mm or 18mm, but to get a Nikon brand f/1.8 in either of those would have been several times the price of this one.
