Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED Vibration Reduction Zoom Lens with Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras

    • The zoom is great
    • Last week (and believe me I don't use this lens a lot) at a very important event, as I twisted the zoom, the lens broke into a million pieces.
    • I would have been willing to spend a little more for this lens to have the instant manuel focus overide and faster focus of the 70-300 and smoother zoom action which is why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5.
    • The zoom lens it much stronger than I thought
    • This is a great lens I am able to take some close ups and they come out very clear and the Zoom on it is amazing, brings everything up close to you
    • Pros:-Largest range of telephoto zooms-Lightweight and small for a lens that extends to 300mm-Solid build
    • The zoom is pretty significant, and with the DX conversion (1.5x) you are shooting with an effective 450mm
    • Yes, there are faster lenses and if you're a pro with a big budget then by all means spend the money and get a faster zoom lens
    • If you are on a budget and want a good quality zoom lens, this is the perfect option.
    • The first thing I would like to say is my copy has very smooth zooming action
    • Most zooms are a little fuzzy, this one delivers crisp and sharp pictures even at the 300 mark.
    • The zoom is fantastic, highly recommend for the price!
    • Overall, it provides a lower cost alternative to a 2.8 aperture option and I suspect it will fit most general users need for a decent zoom lens.
    • Great focus, smooth zoom, impressive all-around.
    • If you are looking for a nice zoom lens, this is one well worth looking at.
    • It provided great zoom and I have taken so many great pictures
    • Zoom will not be usable in action shots, so I will have to return it
    • The zoom was excellent and we got some amazing shots
    • Both zooms are not usable in low light situations (with the 35mm
    • Zoom is just right for outdoor closeup pictures, especially for sports.
    • Excellent zoom and great depth of field
    • It is essential to have a powerful zoom lens, this one is a cheap but good one
    • Everything came packaged well and in great condition.so far my wife is loving the new lenses and working well for family events.auto focus and zoom work well for us common camera folk.
    • I can get a very good zoom and with the VR feature, I don't have to worry too much about vibrations affecting the quality of the picture.
    • It feels 'right' in the hand, and weighs 'just right'(about 1 lb) so that it balances well with a small DX body, like the D40/D60/D3000.The switches click nicely and the zoom is nice and tight - initially sticky at the 300mm end, but got better with use and some elbow grease
    • I definitely recommend this to anyone, especially those who have either a 55-200 who want greater zoom or a 70-300 who desire a slightly wider focal capacity.
    • This is great zoom lens for the price, if you need bit faster focus go for 70-300 VR version
    • and it shipped promptly and is an amazing zoom
    • It fits in easily and clicks so clear and the zoom is good
    • It feels 'right' in the hand, and weighs 'just right'(about 1 lb) so that it balances well with a small DX body, like the D40/D60/D3000.The switches click nicely and the zoom is nice and tight - initially sticky at the 300mm end, but got better with use and some elbow grease
    • This lens however is so easy to focus manually even at maximum zoom that I have to wonder why you would even need the auto focus feature
    • The zoom is perfect and the addtional 100mm zoom from 200-300mm is worth it especially if you are doing a wildlife or scenic photography
    • Good Zoom - with full sized baseball fields, the zoom gets me enough reach for most shots - depending on the level of field access.
    • The zoom is smooth and the VR feature keeps the image pretty steady at 300mm
    • Great bokeh, great pics, nice zoom, focus in great unless it's too dark you may need to focus half distance first
    • I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but the zoom is smooth, and the auto-focus is spot on
    • I have to agree with Jim's Review of Sept. 4, 2010, but also note that the zoom is a little sticky, and hopefully it smooths out with use
    • The zoom is awesome and pictures that are right up to 300mm are clear
    • People looking for an affordable yet relatively powerful zoom lens should strongly consider buying this lens; you will not be disappointed.
    • But until I got this I always had a problem because I didn't have a good enough zoom because I was all the way in the back row by the time I got done talking to everyone
    • It really brings great zooming to my SLR Nikkon 5100.
    • The lens does have a couple sticky spots as you zoom.
    • Perfectly clarity at full zoom, easy snap-on to the body
    • The pictures I took with the first lens were too soft zoomed out past 200mm.
    • Love the zoom, but if you're serious about photography - don't buy kit lenses, just don't
    • I do find that zooming is not as smooth as I would like
    • A good general purpose telephoto zoom
    • I mainly bought this lens as a budget alternative to the faster more expensive zoom lenses
    • Good overall Zoom lens to complete your setup
    • If you're a wildlife photography enthusiast or a daytime sports shooter, and you want an affordable zoom lens, this is definitely the way to go.
    • I was also disappointed that the 300mm length did extend really beyond 30 yards with a strong zoom capability.
    • This is excellent ZOOM lens i have used
    • I am still exploring the camera features but this lens is the best telephoto zoom lens that you can get for your moeny's worth
    • Zoom worked great
    • As a beginner photographer, I don't really have much money to spend on lenses, and I really needed a good zoom lens since what I normally take pictures of (my dogs) runs around.
    • Takes sharp photos, excellent zoom for shots at a bit of a distance
    • This is an excellent zoom lens for the budget DX cameras
    • is a very good lens, take excelent pictures, thank youthe zoom is very good and the take good pictures, for sports etc
    • Pros:long zoom and good colorsWorks best/sharp from f8 to f11Can be used as walk around lens for day time/good lighting conditionsgood value for price.smooth backgroundsCons:bit slow focus compared other nikon zooms, can be compensated with high iso or good lighting conditions
    • If you don't have the full budget to spend on a faster zoom lens then you can get some pretty good shots from this lens
    • it's a great starter zoom lens for my Nikon D3100.
    • Still working on using it to it best ability, but for an amateur, it is a really good zoom to work with:)
    • The zoom is smooth and has VR which keeps it stable
    • Really nice zoom.
